Off to Vegas -- AGAIN!

Oi! Back to Vegas for the 2nd time this month! Heading down tonight with my bud Ryan from work as his birthday present from his wife. I just KNOW it's going to be a blast -- Ryan is one of the few people in the world who share my profound appreciation for a cheap buffet.

It's Ali's birthday today too!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALI! I miss the days when everyone congregated in Waterloo to celebrate...them's were good times(glowsticks anyone?)

Not a whole swack of other exciting news...I've been doing a good chunk of reading the past few weeks and have finished The Amnesia Clinic and Playing for Pizza(John Grisham writing books about italian football players?). Pretty good stuff -- I've also got a few 'heavier' ones queued up...the Kite Runner etc.

Anyways, sounds like there's some snow on the ground in Ottawa. His bodes well for skiind, skating and hockey at Christmas time!! Can't wait to see everyone!

Aiight, gotta go pack!

Lessons of a Skeptic

Life is merely a series of moments, of thoughts, memories and actions. Most are mundane, but in each man's life there are a select handful of occassions which truly stand out - epiphanies, eureka moments. These brief, ephemeral events act as junctures in one's destiny and can truly change the course of one's future.

These realizations can be particularly momentous when a skeptic sees the light; when a doubter becomes a believer. This week has held two such rare turning points for me which I would like to share with you. Please...be seated.

The Gillette Fusion Razor: How many blades does a man need for a smooth and comfortable shave? For many long years the answer was one. But at some point in my adolescent years, Gillette, the famed producer of facial groomers, raised the bar and introduced The Mach 3. This tri-bladed sword has served my face well for many years and has become my trusted companion and partner in all beard related ventures....until this week. Yes, I committed an act of infidelity, of razor adultery. My actions have weighed heavily on my shoulders, and my mind has oftened wandered back to my tryst with the five-bladed Gillette Fusion razor...its light, gentle and delicate touch; the soft, supple shave. Will I remain faithful to Mach3 or run off with my new, but significantly pricier lover.

Facebook: Beyond looking up Steven Boone for old time's sake, I've always seen Facebook as a novelty, a quick fad and nothing more. The friends I value most are the one's I'm already in touch with...people with whom communication has faded aren't likely to re-emerge as bright stars in the night sky of relationships. Often have I rebuked Simon's fervor on the subject of his chosen networking tool...yet my resistence crumbled a bit today. Recently Vik was married in Ottawa, and Simon has regaled us with tales of Richard and the Lady In Red, and of Mister Kelland's celebrated dance floor antics. But until today that's what these were...tales, stories, words. Today they became so much more - they became vivid images, clear and memorable. They became laughter, smiles and a source of enlightened entertainment....all courtesy of the pictures Simon posted to facebook. Pictures that I may otherwise have never seen or enjoyed. Thank you Facebook, for you have brightened my day.

Vegas!

I'm off to Vegas tomorrow for the week - heading down to represent the company at Microsoft Developer Connections, Microsoft's big geek conference for the year. Should be about 5000 attendees, several hundred talks and workshops, etc. I get to give demos at our booth and check out some of the talks. Schweet!

Staying at the Luxor -- also a seriously sweet deal. I plan to totally capitalize on cheap buffets!

Jimmy

Went to the Jimmy Eat World concert here tonight with Kaiser(bud from UW).

Honestly, JEW is for SURE in my top 10 all time favourite bands....I remember when Melanie gave me my first ever mixed taped, and it had Samiam, Juliana Theory and Jimmy Eat World.

I just muchly love a band that has a terrific combo of raging ripping songs and those quiet love ballads. Ahhh, JEW.
