Harper=Hypocrite
I love(read: "hate") politics. The degree to which the major parties talk out of both side of their mouths drives me absolutely insane.
For weeks the Liberals have been announcing spending plans($5 billion for natives, no tax on trusts, etc etc etc). For weeks the Conservatives have been saying that it's deplorable that the Liberals are trying to bribe the voters.
Of course, that doesn't mean that he/the conservatives aren't promising the exact same thing. They'd cut GST by 1%, then by another % a year out.
It's interesting to see the differences in approaches. I'm no economist, so may or may not really grasp what is "best". But to me, the Green Party approach makes much more sense: tax bad things, don't tax good things. So, in this case - cut income taxes (jobs = good ) and instead shift the taxes to "bad" things such as logging, producing packaging intensive goods, etc.
But above and beyong the actual economic impact of the decisions, the hypocrisy of it all really gets to me.

Dear Richard,
While we at GregCorp agree with your strict legal definition of logging as "not a crime", we would like to take this opportunity to reiterate our stance on the issue.
We believe that logging is:
i) destructive to the environment, regardless of how well planned, or how cautious logging companies are.
ii) low margin
iii) employs seasonal and relatively low-skill, low-wage employees.
We should be focusing our work-force on environmentally innovative products, that are high margin, exportable and employ an educated and skilled workforce to work year round. By taxing the use of the actual resource(i.e. logging) and providing an incentive for these companies to instead for example shift their focus to substantially improve the resource efficiency of their production(i.e. improved recycling processes, improved use of agricultural byproducts, etc).
Yours, in a legally non-binding sense,
GregCorp

i think canada could make a lot of money by exporting our gregs to other countries, ones that are lacking in gregs.
please allow 6-8 weeks delivery for your greg and the complimentary pamphlet "How to Care for Your New Greg".
