Sears = Headache

So the Sofa was scheduled to be delivered on Friday. The pain is that they tell you it will arrive anywhere between 7am and 5pm, so you have to be home the entire time.

Laura works in a lab, so obviously can't "work from home". This leaves me with sofa-duty.

Well, I waited and waited. At 1 oclock I had a 10 minute conference call for work. At one thirty I get a phone call from Sears. Great! Or..not.

Buddy is calling to reschedule the delivery. Why? "Well, looks like the delivery guys tried calling you and the phone was busy". "Yah, but umm, why didn't ring the buzzer/doorbell!?!?! Like, I'm HERE! A busy signal means I am HOME".

So after an hour of being on the phone with customer service and telling them they'd better find a way of getting the truck back to my place today, the delivery was finally rescheduled to monday.

This meant i) another day of waiting around ii) the friends I was having over for dinner on saturday would be sitting on the floor.

Well, yesterday rolls around and they remembered to push the buzzer. But when I went down to let them in they looked at me like I was an alien - "You don't have an elevator? WE don't DO stairs."

At no stage in the game did any of the 10 customer service people I talked to from Sears on Friday ask me if I had an elevator. I'm in apartment 408, the top floor of a 3 1/2 floor building. If the delivery guys don't deliver up stairs unless they had a special team of 3 workers, wouldn't SOMEONE have thought to ask me this question!?!?!

So the guy goes "yup, we'll have to reschedule that for another day." I'm going to New York for 2 months leaving on Wednesday, there *IS* no other day to reschedule this for. I've already wasted 2 days of my life dealing with this bloody sofa, I'm not going to waste a third!! I even offered to help them carry it, but I guess from a liability standpoint they're not supposed to do that.

So I had the guys basically just unload the sofa from the truck. Laura came home from work and *we* moved it together. Like, give me a break, if Laura and I can move it these guys bloody well could have. It's just been such a massive headache and inconvenience all due to a lack of effort and organization at Sears' end.

I'm just happy we have the sofa, and it looks nice. Pictures to come.

Comments:
I'm guessing a harshly worded letter has already been drafted?

A couch and ice cream?!

Wow lots of reasons to visit.

However, the lack of elevator is a dealbreaker for me. I don't do stairs
