Canada Day?

Peeps

What is everyone doing next weekend for the big Canada Day? These holidays always sneak up on me before I get myself sufficiently organized to make plans.

Are people all hitting up Ottawa? What's the word?

Dubai 2008

So, the president at work sent out an email yesterday saying that we're very seriously looking at opening an office in Dubai, UAE. This, as you might expect, came from totally out of left field...but apparently there's a real burgeoning tech economy there.

Anyways, we all had a few good laughs about the whole thing. Har har, could you imagine living in Dubai, etc etc.

About 20 minutes later I got a message from my boss boss, asking me to drop by his office, at which point he opened with "What do you think about moving to Dubai?".

After a longer than expected chat with him, I'm atleast 2% thinking about it(ie this is a real long, slim chance, but not outside the realm of possibility)...I think I'd be more inclined to want to maybe move to London for a year with work than Dubai...but I'm doing my Dubai reading. If anyone has anything to say pro or con Dubai, let me know.

Bajan Bodaciousness

Met up with Murm, Yonny and Chimon yesterday down at the Harbourfront to check out "Barbados Day". Wasn't quite as impressive as I was potentially hoping, however a few highlights worth mentioning:

- Barbados' key exports: rum and salted fish. ( This is impressive because Muriel guessed rum and I guessed fish)

- Sara made a "native doll"; this thing had a rump the relative size of basketballs

- Churro churro! Simon and I used to eat these things at price club back in highschool. Who knew that the Barbadian's were also fond!

- The infamous "rum sampling that never happened" - it's often said that carribean folk live on a very relaxed schedule; there was supposed to be a 3pm rum sampling...by 3:15pm they were vaguely starting to look like they were beginning to get set up.

- "Bajan" was a term we heard bandied around a bunch. Thanks to Murm we now know it is an unofficial term for Barbadians(often pronounced "Bar-bay-jians", they simply cut off the "Bar" and were left with "bajan".

- Most importantly, we got to try out this wicked fun board game, "Twilight Imperium"; I had to leave before the end of the game, but this was SERIOUSLY fun. You should all check it out.

Simon is off to Vancouver. Both a sad and glorious day. Good luck Chimon!

Let's go SENS

It's been a heck of a run this year, but the boys in Red will have to try harder tonight if they want to sip out of Lord Stanley's big shiny mug. That first period on Monday was FANTASTIC, but during the 2nd period it looked like the Sens had been replaced by a circus troupe of dancing chimpanzees.

Ah Ottawa, you really are such a hard team to cheer for. Atleast you're better than the Leafs ; )
