Bajan Bodaciousness

Met up with Murm, Yonny and Chimon yesterday down at the Harbourfront to check out "Barbados Day". Wasn't quite as impressive as I was potentially hoping, however a few highlights worth mentioning:

- Barbados' key exports: rum and salted fish. ( This is impressive because Muriel guessed rum and I guessed fish)

- Sara made a "native doll"; this thing had a rump the relative size of basketballs

- Churro churro! Simon and I used to eat these things at price club back in highschool. Who knew that the Barbadian's were also fond!

- The infamous "rum sampling that never happened" - it's often said that carribean folk live on a very relaxed schedule; there was supposed to be a 3pm rum sampling...by 3:15pm they were vaguely starting to look like they were beginning to get set up.

- "Bajan" was a term we heard bandied around a bunch. Thanks to Murm we now know it is an unofficial term for Barbadians(often pronounced "Bar-bay-jians", they simply cut off the "Bar" and were left with "bajan".

- Most importantly, we got to try out this wicked fun board game, "Twilight Imperium"; I had to leave before the end of the game, but this was SERIOUSLY fun. You should all check it out.

Simon is off to Vancouver. Both a sad and glorious day. Good luck Chimon!
