Need a computer?

Work is having an auction for some of our older laptops and desktops...they're "older" for us but are still pretty beefy solid machines.

If anyone's looking for a new computer on the relatively cheap, let me know and I'll see what I can hook up.

Psssst - Simon!

Dearest Chimon,

Just a friendly reminder in regards to your much anticipated blog. I know the pressure may quelch your creative process, but in all fairness a month and a half is a long time for your inspiration to come to fruition.

Please keep me appraised of your progress on this front.

Best Regards,
GRod

First Bike Trip of the Season!

Well! Friday was the juggling class, and I think it worked out really well! There were actually 10 people there (8 new grads + 2 full timers), and by the end of the class 3 of them were doing basic 3 ball juggling really well, and 2 others were doing a couple variations of 2 balls in one hand. Woot woot! And the best part is, I think I actually managed to do a pretty convincing job of relating it to consulting and tying in a number of lessons re: professionalism / presentation, learning new skills, giving and receiving feedback, negotiating, etc.

Today Laura and I embarked on the first hobo roadtrip of 2008. I've previously biked Toronto -> Oakville, so decided I didn't need to do that leg of things again. We drove out this morning to Burlington, and I biked ~70km from Burlington to Hamilton, then from Hamilton to Brantford. We met up at McMaster for lunch, right across from the hospital. From Hamilton the ride was along a really nice rail trail - saw a few nice birds (oriole, cardinals, warblers, swallows) and got a bit too much sun. I'd expected the day to be overcast, so hadn't put on sunscreen (what was I THINKING?) - arms are red as a lobster now. I'd been planning to do Brantford to Waterloo or Guelph tomorrow, but looks like its going to rain.

Consulting and the Art of Juggling

Tomorrow is my big day! As some of you know, I've been learning to juggle for the past two or three months, all with the intention of ultimately teaching a juggling class at work!

Currently we're in the middle of the 4 week "Bootcamp" for our 8 new grad hires...and man, is that some SERIOUS stuff. This is the first year I've been significantly involved in planning and teaching the bootcamp - I've given 5 hours of talks so far, and am slotted to do 3 more. Lots of fun...but mostly technical / serious. The one I'm looking forward to the most....juggling!

I'm actually pretty solid now - I can do lots of different 2 ball and 3 ball tricks. The plan is to teach the group how to juggle 3 balls in < 1 hour, while also offering insight and anectodes about consulting (and how consulting is really all about JUGGLING).

Wish me luck!
